My name is Jeff from Woodstock, Ontario, Canada. Lived here all my life, 61 years. Married 30+ years, no children of my own but step sons and daughters that my wife brought in to my life are the best. Gave us super grand kids and are a huge part of my life.
I have GED, no college or university, and just about everything I know is self taught. Trial and error to me is the best educator.
I have done many careers in my life from order picking for a cleaning supply company, to carpentry and cabinet making, to farming, to forlift/heavy equipment operator, Logistics & Supply Management, to currently truck driver. Many other things inbetween. I hope this is my last career before retirement. I have always taken on carreers by getting introduced to something and saying, Hey, I can do this!
That attitude gave me the opportunity to get a Blackbelt in Karate, my own business, a commercial driver's licence, and the love of computers.
Started in the 80s with a Commadore 64 and a 300 bps modem. Saw the greatest world to be immersed in. Moved on to an IBM XT, the AT, the 286, 386 and so on. During all of it I thought, you know, I can be a sysop too!
Got a copy of Renegade BBS, D'bridge and some doors and a way I went. Wow it was fantastic. Then I had a thought, there are alot of boards out there and 99% of them were a long distance call from me and running up high phone bills, there has got to be a cheaper better way. And there was.
I got a copy of JetBBS put it along with D'bridge on my old XT and set it up to take full advantage of call forwarding and put in in a friend's house in Ingersoll which was a local call from me and also a local call from London. Big city with a lot of boards back then and programmed them in. Did the same on the 286 that renegade was running on. Log in to my board at home, open the door, choose a board from london to call, log out and wait 1 minute. Call back and boom, I'm now logging in to that board TOLL FREE! Amazing!
Then I had another thought. Bright was a local call from Woodstock and Kitchener/Waterloo was a local call from Bright. Did the same thing, put a system in Bright and we had K-W boards TOLL FREE!
In the end, a user From London could call a K-W and in 1 minute be online TOLL FREE! I was a great way to bring people together!
Ah, but then the Internet came. Wasn't worth keeping up with it anymore.
Was out of the bbs scene for a while getting in to the Internet. It has just turned in to the bane of our social existance with the trollers, scams and the level these keyboard creeps seems to have no bottom of in which they will stoop to. Kinda like the Dark Side. Don't get me wrong, there is still a lot of great stuff the Internet has to offer. Its the other crap the world could do with
ut.
Then again, I had a thought, create my own space where none of the crap will be tollerated. Thats where I am now with Mystic Realms. My tag origin is Mystic Realms - A Social Media Alternative. Trying to have a lot of nets and get people together again.
I also created a media server for my family and friends as an alternative to the costly streaming platforms. I put up any requests that my family and friends want to see from regular TV so none of them have a need for cable. Put up shows and movies from ripped dvds that I own and still purchase.
All of this keeps me really busy and since working full time leaves a finite amount of time to work on it all.
But I ramble. I hope I did not bore anyone. Thanks for you help and support! Ill be getting a copy of your release of Legion soon!
